We’re recruiting Live Chat volunteers!

Stonewall Housing is now recruiting Live Chat volunteers – could you join us?

We launched our website’s Live Chat service in 2022, running every weekday between 13:00 – 14:00.

We know that not everyone can message us during that time, which is why we’re looking to expand this service and run it from 14:00 – 17:00 every weekday. We’ll run these new times as a pilot from 1st April – 30th June 2024. But we need your help! Could you sign up as a Live Chat volunteer?

Join us for an online info session on:

Tuesday 6 Feb – 17:30 – 18:15

or

Wednesday 7 Feb – 12:15 – 13:00

Register your place for one of the online info sessions by emailing volunteering@stonewallhousing.org

What will our Live Chat volunteers do?

  • After you’ve received full training from our expert caseworkers, you’ll sign up for the shifts you can commit to.
  • During a shift, you’ll use our Live Chat platform (writing typed messages) to offer real-time support to people visiting our website. You’ll provide confidential signposting, and answer questions from people wanting to know more about our services and how we can help them. You’ll support them by sharing links and information.
  • You’ll have the support of a Stonewall Housing Supervisor during each and every shift.
  • You’ll work within the boundaries of our confidentiality, safeguarding and data protection policies.

What will you gain from the role?

  • We’ll train you on how to use the platform and will equip you with the skills and confidence to carry out the role.
  • Ongoing support and supervision from our Volunteer Coordinator.
  • A sense that you’re able to help someone who is facing or experiencing homelessness.

What are the benefits of volunteering with us?

  • The opportunity to volunteer from home.
  • The opportunity to develop new skills and knowledge.
  • The satisfaction of knowing that you’re making a difference to LGBTQ+ people facing homelessness.
  • Opportunities to become involved in further developing this service.

Volunteers must be 18+ and living in the UK. We will need to run our own DBS check for you. You will also need access to your own computer, tablet or smart phone, with access to the internet for each of your shifts. No qualifications are needed as full training is provided.

“Having somewhere safe to call home is a right, not a privilege. There are tens of thousands of LGBTQ+ people all around the country who would benefit from the expert support we provide, and we plan to do everything we can to reach them.” – Steven McIntyre, CEO.
